Costume designs for A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM by William Shakespeare

Prod. type: University Theatre Production
Medium: Watercolor & Prisma-color pencils
Drawing time: 2 - 3 hours each
Construction time: 4 weeks from design to stage. About 2 to 3 days for each costume.
Recycled garments: None. Both costumes were scratch built, accept Hypolita's sandals. Only some accessories (belts and blades were from stock.)
Challenges: The role of Theseus was recast 3 times before costume was completed, necessitating minor adjustments. otherwise smooth sailing.
The best thing was the way the actors looked in the costumes. Both were tall and had great presence which gave the costumes an added élan.
The only change was that the fringe never made it onto the bottom hem of Hypolita's outer tunic.

Awesome work! Your colors are spot on, and that belt is a wow piece! I do wish, though, that the yellow and blue tunics were marbled a bit to break up the large flat color. It would have given your characters a lot of visual depth!
